Sunset Park is a culturally diverse neighborhood that traces its roots back to the 19th century. The neighborhood is conveniently located in the western section of Brooklyn, and it provides residents with stunning views of Staten Island, the Manhattan skyline and New Jersey.

Brief History of Sunset Park

The neighborhood grew quickly during the 19th century as a result of the shipping boom. In fact, the entire area was built around the Bush Terminal. During World War II, the Brooklyn Army Terminal became the major employer in the neighborhood, and they shipped the vast majority of all American troops and supplies. Since that time, Sunset Park has continued to grow, and it is currently the home of approximately 150,000 people.

Architectural Style

Individuals and families that are interested in purchasing real estate in this area will be able to take advantage of a great mixture of historical and modern houses. Many of the residential blocks feature highly desirable brownstone and limestone homes, and you will also find luxurious condos. Fortunately, the local real estate is very diverse, and this makes it possible for people of almost any budget to purchase a home in the area.

Transportation

Anyone who has ever lived in New York City understands how important public transportation is, and this neighborhood will make it easy for you to access the entire area. There are three subway lines that run throughout Sunset Park, and the NYCTA bus system also provides five lines for the area. If you prefer to drive, you will be conveniently located near the Belt Parkway, NY-27 and I-278.

Schools

The neighborhood has 15 different schools, including public schools ranging from K-12, private schools and Touro College. The public schools are part of the New York City Department of Education District that educates more than 1.15 million students. Some of Sunset Park's schools have received extremely high ratings from GreatSchools, including a 9/10 for PS 107 John W. Kimball.
